Coronavirus Containment - 17th March

Coronavirus Containment

Dear Members,

In line with the government’s most recent advice relating to Coronavirus containment, control and self-isolation published on 16th March the Committee met last night to agree our approach to this evolving situation.  We want to mitigate the risk to Members as much as possible while retaining their ability to enjoy the facilities of the Club and to play golf when the opportunity arises.  However, ultimately it is the responsibility of every Member in helping to reduce the risk to themselves and others.  Please follow any government and NHS guidelines provided and if you are showing Coronavirus symptoms such as a raised temperature and a new persistent cough, then do not come to the club or use the course, clubhouse or practice facilities, in order to protect our community of members and staff.

We aim to keep the Clubhouse, Pro-shop and driving range and Golf Course open for as long as possible but this will of course depend on the availability of staff and commercial requirements. We are well aware that many of our members fall into the ‘at risk’ category and we support the wish of members to play Golf in the company of friends and enjoy the open air if possible providing that they are following the current government advice regarding social isolation and distancing.

Golf and Social Events

We will be actively reviewing all golf and social events as the situation evolves over the weeks and months ahead. Any changes to the published timetable will be detailed on the website and notice boards so please check before coming to the club.

We understand that some members may choose to play golf but may not wish to use the clubhouse facilities before or after a round. To facilitate this you may change your shoes in the car park and scorecards may be collected from the pro-shop, or if preferred from the 1st tee shelter. Please note the following changes to the events calendar:

Bar & Catering

The Clubhouse is open and the bar menu is available.  The terrace is now open for use, seating areas in the Faulkner Room have been spread apart to assist with social distancing.

Shotgun starts

Any competitions previously designated as shot-gun starts scheduled over the next 2 months will be changed to normal tee times to avoid large numbers of players congregating in the changing rooms and club house at the same time.

Roll-ups

Roll-up organisers will be making arrangements so that members who do not wish to enter the clubhouse for the draw can still join in the golf and meet at the tee. Existing roll-up times will not be changed.

Medals and stablefords

These will continue as scheduled

Matches

All inter-club matches scheduled for March and April are to be cancelled. Decisions on May and June matches will be advised in due course.

Tee times

Please continue to book tee times on IG and cancel any bookings no longer required

Hygiene

We have stepped up cleaning protocols at the club including regular disinfecting of surfaces, door handles, chairs, tables, toilet facilities, washbasins and the bar area.

We would ask that all members follow the government advice regarding regular and thorough hand washing and refrain from shaking hands and keep ones distance from one another. On the course we suggest you don’t touch one another’s golf equipment and you should avoid touching the flag stick where possible. Do not use cash in the bar or pro-shop. When paying at the bar or Pro-shop keep a safe distance from staff who will take your name and deduct payment from IG without touching your gold card. Please use contactless payments in the Pro Shop and when topping up your gold card.  Members are reminded that gold cards may be topped up via the IG app using paypal. Please do not come into the office.  You should talk to staff from the doorway and preferably contact them by email or telephone.  Office hours may be restricted in the course of time.  Please bear with us.

Incorporation

Thank you for the positive response we have seen so far to our decision to cancel the SGM and proceed with postal/email voting on the resolutions. If you haven’t voted already please do so as soon as possible.

Club Community and support

We ask that  any members who do decide to self-isolate, or are diagnosed with the virus let the club know as soon as possible. If any member in this situation finds they need help with food or other supplies please let us know as we have volunteers willing to help where possible.

These are unprecedented times for the world and indeed for our club. For the time being the Pro-shop, clubhouse and bar will remain open and we hope that you will continue to visit us when you can. The committee will be communicating by phone meetings as the situation evolves and will keep in touch with you all via email.

We are facing a difficult few months but with your continued support we hope we will be able to look forward to a great summer of golf.

Stay well.

Gill Longdon

Chair of Committee
