We weren't planning on taking up golf, but my husband wanted us to play a sport together, he didn't play tennis and I wasn't going fishing anytime soon!
We had been on holiday with friends who played golf and they were keen we should try it so, on our return home, we saw an ad in the local magazine for an open day at Bramley and we took this as a sign. We nervously attended and were swiftly put at ease by the pros who were coaching that day and were relieved to see other equally apprehensive people.
Once in the Academy we took part in the group lessons and realised that we were all in the same boat which helped with our nerves, we became part of a group who supported each other and we had some friends to play with. Nick was great teaching everyone and when we were ready we went out onto the course for Texas Scrambles which were an excellent learning experience for beginners.
We were 'fledged' from the Academy after 18-24 months and started to join in with all aspects of club life, which was scary, but people were encouraging and supportive. Not only have we learnt a new sport, but we have made some wonderful friends and also had some fantastic golf holidays together.
